On Friday, the latest Apple smartphones made their way onto store shelves around the world.
As of Friday, the newest Apple smartphones, the iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus have become available to consumers and it is expected that the sales that took place over the weekend will likely have been record breakers.
As is the tradition during the release of Apple mobile devices, people flocked to its retail stores, worldwide.
Among the most notable additions to the iPhone 6S smartphones are the improved camera as well as a 3D touch feature. Analysts have predicted that by Sunday night, there were likely about 12 million to 13 million sales of the two new models. This represents an increase above the just over 10 million devices sold when the original iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices were first launched. They were exceptionally popular but the sales were potentially held back when there was a delay to the release in China, which is the largest smartphone market in the world.
On Friday, Apple saw its shares rise by just under 1 percent as the iPhone 6S sales began.
Even at that time, the company was already saying that the pre-orders were indicating that the sales of these latest smartphones were on track to break the records that were set for first weekend sales, last year with the previous model of the mobile device.
Among the most notable purchases of this new iPhone model occurred in Sydney, Australia, where a telepresence robot named Lucy bought the mobile device. Lucy was operated by Lucy Kelly, a marketing executive, who said that “I obviously have my work and other things to attend to and can’t spend two days lining up so my boss at work suggested I take one of the robots down and use it to stand in my place.” The wheeled robot, therefore took her place in the line to buy the gadget on her behalf.
Apple managed to drum up this excitement, despite the fact that the improvements to the iPhone 6S is quite modest when compared to the much more dramatic redesigns that were launched last year.
